Hello to the Rehook tribe.

You have been sending in a lot of questions to our team here at Rehook. We are excited to be able to answer these, so we have put some of your questions about the dreaded puncture! These will help save you money and learn new skills to keep you and your bike happy. Please feel free to post any new questions in the comments below.

A puncture repair kit for a bicycle is a way of filling a hole in an inner tube to prevent air from escaping. This will stop your tyres from going flat. They come in two main types, a patch with a separate tube of glue and self adhesive patches. Being able to fix a puncture easily can save money on new inner tubes, and keep you mobile whilst out riding.

What is the best cycle puncture repair kit?

There are two types of cycle puncture repair kit. A kit containing a patch which is glued over the hole. These can be very messy and difficult to apply. The glue can also be dangerous for younger people to use. The other option is a glueless patch like our Gooeys range. These are self adhesive patches. They are much easier to apply, and completely safe to use. They have a stronger hold, and are far easier to locate in the correct position.

Can you repair a bike tyre with duct tape?

A lot of people try to repair their inner tube with makeshift items, like duct tape, gaffer tape, or electrical tape. This simply does not work. The first problem is the tape is often not adhesive enough to create a full seal around the puncture. The second issue is that the tape does not stretch with the inner tube when it’s inflated, so it breaks or falls off. The simpler option is to use a puncture repair patch like our Gooeys repair kits. These are super adhesive, and will stretch with the tube, to make sure it stays in place.

Does tyre weld ruin your tyre?

When tyre weld is used on a cycle inner tube, the tube is not fit for use from then on. Quite often the tyre weld will not even fix the puncture in an innertube because the material of the tube is too thin for the weld to apply. Once tyre weld has been put inside the tube, there is no way of getting it out, and the tube is then useless. This means you will need to replace the whole tube. The best option is to repair the puncture with a repair patch, like the Rehook Gooeys. It is just as quick, and the inner tube can be used time and time again.

How long can you ride on a tyre with a patch?

The lifespan of a tyre patch can be extremely long term if applied correctly. Once the patch is applied and sealed, it will actually become stronger, the longer it is left on the inner tube. The Rehook Gooeys apply almost instantly, and can last as long as the inner tube itself, so it’s a vest cost effective option.
